Volcanoes National Park Prices

Volcanoes National Park prices depend on four things: your nationality, country of residence, season and the activity you plan to partake in.


International visitors pay $1500 for a gorilla trekking permit. African visitors from outside the East African Community and EAC residents pay $500 while Rwandan and EAC citizens pay $200. These reduced rates are only applicable between October and May, June to September all visitors pay $1500 for gorilla trekking regardless of nationality or residence status.


International visitors spending two nights in Akagera or Nyungwe National Park before a subsequent visit to the Volcanoes for gorilla trekking get a 30% discount from October to May.


1 day hiking Mt. Bisoke and the Diane Fossey Memorial Tomb cost $75 while Climbing Mt. Muhabura and Sabyinyo Cost $100. climbing mt. Karisimbi is the only two-day hiking activity which costs $400 per person for solo hikers and $300 per person for groups of two or more.


Trekking and Hiking permits oftenly sell-out especially during the peak season of June to September and early booking is advised. All bookings are done in advance, the park only accepts MTN Mobile Money, bank transfer, or credit card and debit card payments.


Children below the age of 16 are not permitted to enter the park for any activity.


Park Entry Fees

Volcanoes National Park has no entry fee and visitors are charged according to the activity they plan to participate in. Entry fees as well as guides fees are included in ticket costs usually referred to as permits fees .

All park activities in the park begin at 07:00. One is required to be at the RDB Headquarters in Kinigi by 06:30 to present their permit and get assigned a group to join along with park guides.

You can book your gorilla permit directly with us after confirming availability. For all other hiking and trekking activity permits you can check availability with the Rwanda Development Board and book on the Visit Rwanda website.

Cancellation Policy

Volcanoes National Park Permits are non-refundable unless for medical reasons and medical proof is required. Rescheduling permits is allowed only one week or more before the activity date for 30% of the permit costs and is subject to the activities availability.


If the park cancels due to weather or operational reasons, a full refund is given. No refunds for no-shows or late arrivals.
